A few photos from my participation in RSVP (Realtor Service Volunteer Program). This year
I was team captain for the Willow Glen team. Had a few great people on my team and
met some wonderful people in need of assistance.

She put all the other hosts to shame! Maybe she'll beat out Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin
for the most times hosting SNL.

Ever wondered what the story behind that house wtih the historical
landmark sign was on the corner of Union and Los Gatos-Almaden Rd.
was? It was founded by 13 women in the summer of June 1892.

Here's the story behind the sign: http://www.mercurynews.com/san-jose-neighborhoods/ci_15035484

So, if you've been keeping abreast of the fate of the trees in TJ Martin Park
and Jeffrey Fontana Park, there has been somewhat of a solution, although
no one wins.

The parks were created as part of an agreemetn with PG&E and the city which
permitted PG&E to have the right of way fortheir high voltage lines, and providing
residents in the area  with neighborhood parks.

Initially 62 trees were to be removed in 2010, and 78 in 2011. That has been
changed to a multi-year plan that preserves most of the large Oak trees and
removes only 14 trees and allows for the trimming of four trees in June 2010.

To view a map of the trees to be removed, visit: http://www.sanjoseca.gov/district10/TJ-Fontana2map.PDF
and http://www.san joseca.gov/district10/TJ-Fontana1.PDF

A TJ Martin community member suggested a more detailed plan that made
a little more sense this year, that would preserve all the trees. Check it out
at: http://www.ornl.gov/info/ornlreview/v38_1_05/article11.shtml

True to Earth Day this year, contractors who remodel old homes built before 1978 are now required to certified by the EPA. This will raise the cost for these guys, which in turn will raise the cost of remodeling. (Most reputable companies in California were already doing this).

Jim Salata, friend Danny Salata's brother was featured in an article in The Willow Glen Resident, and noted it is a
complicated and individual issue for each home, but anything we can do to help the environment is helpful.

The DIY Academy at 1244 Bascom Ave. is offering four free classes on lead based paint removal on May 1st. wwww.diyacademy.com
